College Football: Big Ten

  • No. 6 Indiana 13, Michigan 6 (OT). On Sunday, Kyle Whittingham said the loss is “on me.” He called the blown-up play-action on third-and-goal “not a good football call,” and he pointed to three problems: no run game, no red-zone touchdowns and two first-half turnovers in Tommy Carr’s first start. He promised changes to the scheme and possibly the lineup. Michigan is 4-3 (1-3) and plays at Rutgers Saturday at 12:30 PM ET.
  • Saturday’s other results, covered yesterday: Wisconsin 24, USC 7; Minnesota 13, Iowa 10; Illinois 21, Oregon 10; UCLA 28, Michigan State 10; Northwestern 42, Rutgers 14.
  • New AP poll: Ohio State is No. 2, Indiana No. 4, UCLA No. 7 (one of three unbeaten teams left), Northwestern tied for No. 20 and Wisconsin No. 25 (its first ranking this season). Iowa and USC dropped out. Ohio State plays at USC Saturday night.

NFL: Week 7

  • Seahawks 20, Chiefs 3 (SNF). Seattle handed K.C. its first loss. Jaxon Smith-Njigba had 9 catches for 150 yards and a TD. Mahomes threw for 165 yards and a pick, and Kenneth Walker III ran for 36 yards in his return to Seattle. Travis Kelce moved to 5th on the all-time receptions list.
  • Falcons 29, 49ers 20. Atlanta forced four turnovers and handed San Francisco its first loss. The Falcons scored 23 straight points, and Michael Penix Jr. threw 3 TDs with no picks.
  • Lions 20, Packers 17. Jake Bates hit a field goal as time expired. Goff threw for 303 yards and 2 TDs, and Green Bay rookie Trey Smack missed kicks from 26 and 35 yards. (~1.4M views). Gibbs gave himself up short of the goal line to run out the clock, a rare bit of selfless clock management that set up the walk-off kick.
  • Vikings 16, Colts 10. Harrison Smith’s late interception sealed it. Minnesota is 6-0 and has won 11 straight.
  • Bengals 35, Ravens 13. Cincinnati was down 13-0 at halftime and scored 35 unanswered. Burrow threw 4 second-half TDs, and Tee Higgins had 148 yards.
  • Giants 27, Texans 21 (OT). Devin Singletary’s 30-yard TD won it. J.J. McCarthy was sharp in his first Giants start, Cam Skattebo ran for 124 yards and Malik Nabers has four straight 100-yard games.
  • Broncos 30, Cardinals 16. Bo Nix had a 62-yard TD scramble and a 52-yard TD pass. Denver has won three straight.
  • Rams 35, Raiders 21. Stafford threw 3 TDs and broke the Rams’ career passing TD record. He now holds that record for two franchises.
  • Buccaneers 43, Panthers 13. Baker Mayfield returned, but Bucky Irving (106 yards, 2 TDs) and a 258-yard rushing day carried the offense.
  • Browns 27, Titans 24. Andre Szmyt kicked another walk-off field goal. Deshaun Watson has led a game-winning drive in all five Browns wins.
  • Dolphins 28, Jets 25. Miami got its first win under Jeff Hafley.
  • Steelers 16, Saints 10 (Paris). Jaylen Warren ran for 101 yards, and Pittsburgh is 5-2.
  • Tonight (MNF): Cowboys at Eagles on ESPN. Jalen Hurts is on IR.

NBA (Sunday)

  • Lakers 132, Jazz 123. Luka Dončić had 52 points, 10 assists and 8 rebounds with 8 threes. It’s his 10th career 50-point game, and the Lakers are 3-0. (~1M views). It’s the first 50-10-5 game with five or more threes in Lakers history.
  • Timberwolves 117, Raptors 94. Anthony Edwards scored 26, and Minnesota is 3-0. Toronto, without Kawhi Leonard, took its first loss. (~2.6M views). It’s the most-viewed clip of the weekend: LaMelo Ball hits a ridiculous stepback three for his new team, and Ant loses it on the bench.
  • Thunder 108, Clippers 101. SGA scored 34, but OKC lost Jalen Williams late. He landed awkwardly on his left leg after a Kris Dunn foul with 1:14 left and was stretchered off to a standing ovation. There was no diagnosis yet in the latest reports.
  • Pistons 106, 76ers 93. Cade Cunningham had 26-8-8, and Philly took its first loss. With Embiid resting (plantar fasciitis management), LeBron James started at center and scored 18.

Premier League: Matchweek 8 (Sunday)

  • Bournemouth 3, Man United 0 at Old Trafford. Rayan and Tavernier scored, then Evanilson added a stunner. Bruno Fernandes sat on the bench the whole game. United are winless in eight and fifth from bottom, and the club is holding crisis talks about Michael Carrick, who hadn’t been sacked as of the latest reports.
  • Liverpool 2, Brighton 0. Wirtz’s shot deflected in off Pascal Gross, and Isak scored his 6th goal in 6 league games. It’s Liverpool’s fourth straight win, and they’re up to 4th.
  • Newcastle 2, Crystal Palace 0. Osula and Barnes scored.
  • Hull 1, Brentford 1. McBurnie scored a penalty, and Ouattara equalized.
  • Sunderland 0, Leeds 0. It was played in howling wind and rain.

  • El Clásico: Real Madrid 2, Barcelona 1 at Camp Nou. Mbappé scored twice, including the 87th-minute winner, against the La Liga leaders.
  • F1: Kimi Antonelli won the US Grand Prix by 13 seconds over Leclerc, with Verstappen third. The title has to wait, but ninth or better in Mexico City clinches it.
