NFL: Thursday Night Football

  • Packers 27, Panthers 19. Jordan Love completed 30 of 41 passes for 288 yards and 3 TDs, to Tucker Kraft, Matthew Golden and Josh Jacobs, plus one interception. Jacobs scored twice, once on a 4-yard catch and once on a 1-yard run, though he managed only 39 yards on 21 carries. Green Bay led 27-10 in the 3rd quarter and survived three turnovers. Carolina got within eight on Bryce Young’s 26-yard TD pass to Jalen Coker on 4th-and-3 with 5:37 left, but the 2-point try failed. The Panthers then turned it over on downs at midfield. The Packers sacked Young six times, and none of their last five opponents has scored more than 20. Green Bay is 5-3, and Carolina is 3-4. (~640K views). It’s the most-watched clip of the night: Carolina tried a desperation string of laterals, and it ended in a fumble.
  • Christian Watson broke a rib on a 53-yard catch in the 2nd quarter and was taken to the hospital. A CT scan showed no internal bleeding, so he came back to the game and finished with 8 catches for 113 yards. Afterward he said watching himself on camera coming out of the ambulance felt like “WWE Smackdown vs. Raw.” (~260K views). Lambeau went wild when he jogged back out, and it’s the night’s feel-good moment.
  • Carolina CB Will Lee was carted off with a hamstring injury on the same play. The Panthers already have three corners on IR. Several Brewers players brought the World Series trophy to Lambeau a night after winning it, and a few tried Lambeau Leaps.
  • Sunday’s highlights: Vikings at Lions (Minnesota is the NFL’s last unbeaten team), Chiefs at Broncos for first place in the AFC West at 4:25 PM ET on CBS, and Eagles at Commanders at 8:20 PM ET on NBC. Monday night is Bears at Seahawks.

NBA

  • Grizzlies 124, Trail Blazers 103. Rookie Cameron Boozer had 18 points, 12 rebounds and 12 assists. At 19 years, 103 days old, he’s the second-youngest player ever with a triple-double, behind only Josh Giddey. Memphis is 5-0 for the first time since 2014-15, and Portland is 3-1. Ja Morant scored 14 in his first game against his old team but left in the 4th quarter with a hamstring injury. (~255K views). It’s the NBA’s top clip of the night. Boozer is also the youngest player to post a triple-double in a win.
  • Hawks 114, Cavaliers 111. Onyeka Okongwu had a season-high 29 points and 12 rebounds. Nickeil Alexander-Walker added 25 and hit two free throws with 15 seconds left, then Donovan Mitchell missed two tying looks at the buzzer. James Harden led Cleveland with 24, and Mitchell went 1-for-9 from three. Atlanta (3-3) snapped a three-game skid, and Cleveland (3-2) saw its three-game win streak end.
  • Pelicans 132, Kings 120. Jeremiah Fears had 22 points, a career-high 13 assists, 8 rebounds and 4 blocks. Zion Williamson scored 22 on 10-of-12 shooting. It’s New Orleans’ first win (1-4) and its first under coach Jamahl Mosley. The Pelicans forced 25 turnovers and set a franchise record with 40 points off turnovers. Rookie Darius Acuff Jr. scored a career-high 34 with 14 assists for Sacramento, which is 0-5.

College Football: Big Ten

  • Michigan (4-3, 1-3) plays at Rutgers Saturday, Oct. 31, at 12:30 PM ET on BTN. Freshman Tommy Carr is expected to start again. Michigan is favored by about two touchdowns (14.5 to 16 points depending on the book), with a total around 45. Rutgers will likely be without QB Dylan Lonergan, who is expected to miss the game, and WR KJ Duff is doubtful. Michigan’s Thursday report was unchanged: safeties Rod Moore and Jordan Young, edges Dom Nichols and John Henry Daley, DT Enow Etta and OT Blake Frazier are questionable. WRs Kendrick Bell and Braydon Alford, RB Micah Ka’apana, edge Julius Holly and OL Andrew Sprague and Ace Hamilton are out.
  • There were no Big Ten games Thursday. Saturday’s slate also includes Ohio State at USC and Wisconsin at Iowa.

Premier League

  • There were no matches Thursday. Matchweek 9 opens Saturday with Chelsea vs. Man United at 8:30 AM ET. United is winless in eight. Michael Carrick said he doesn’t need assurances about his job and that Benjamin Sesko will be out “a long period of time.” He wouldn’t confirm whether Bruno Fernandes will keep the captaincy after their clear-the-air talks.

Golf

  • There’s no men’s major until the 2027 Masters at Augusta National, April 8–11.

Outside the Usual

  • WNBA Finals Game 6: Dream 80, Valkyries 69. Atlanta tied the series 3-3 at a 12:30 PM tipoff Thursday, forcing the first Game 7 in WNBA history. Allisha Gray scored 23 with five threes, Rhyne Howard had 21, and Angel Reese added 15 points and 14 rebounds. Game 7 is Saturday at 8:00 PM ET in San Francisco on USA/CNBC. (~1.4M views). It’s the most-viewed sports clip of the last day, with Reese’s postgame line about the lunchtime crowd taking off everywhere.
